Bobbie A. Berkowitz (NAM '01)

Bobbie A. Berkowitz (NAM '01)

"As I began preparing for retirement several years ago, I thought deeply about who had influenced my career and how that influence impacted my practice, policy, and academic roles. I began my career as a public health nurse in rural Washington State and over time served in many roles that included leadership in public health, state government, academia, and my final role as the Dean of the School of Nursing at Columbia University. I was inducted into the National Academy of Medicine in 2001, and my experience in serving the Academy in multiple ways brought a deep regard for the influence we have had on the health and science of our nation. As I thought about how I have been influenced and nurtured by the National Academy of Medicine, it was an easy decision to provide for the Academy through a gift."
